The Northants Haunted team were delighted to be invited to this marvellous Pub, Hotel and Restaurant situated in the village of Castle Ashby in Northamptonshire. On this occasion we tried something new and only two of the team knew the whereabouts of our investigation. This was an experiment to see how many members of the team could pick up on the past happenings of the building. Unfortunately Lyndsay our researcher and historian was unable to make the night due to illness, but she did research some of the findings afterwards for us. Our investigation commenced at 8pm. It was a beautiful summers evening. The air was totally still. Unfortunately we had to rely on my note taking, which was rather brief as I was otherwise occupied with the nights investigations. However below are some of our findings and Lyndsays research findings.
I haven’t been able to make a match for the name Jacob and 1806. The nearest I came was with someone called Jacob born in 1805 but he was from Laxton (near Corby) and as far as I could find, had no links to Castle Ashby
The name Thomas Addison was interesting as he is a famous doctor, but I could see how he was linked to the area. Thomas Addison (2 April 1793 - 29 June 1860) was a renowned 19th-century English physician and scientist. He is traditionally regarded as one of the "great men" of Guy's Hospital in London
Later, Martin came up with the name Charles Digby linked to gun dogs, a gun cocked, and hunting.
It was not until the 1860s that any further substantial changes were carried out at the house, when Charles, the 3rd Marquess, and his wife brought in Sir Digby Wyatt, who made many changes to the interior of the house. Most of these were subsequently restored to their previous state by later generations who considered them ugly.
Not an exact match, but quite closely linked with the area
With regards to the Water Pump, Rosemary and people being thrown in, I couldn’t find anything that mentioned it.
Sorry its not more in depth, but on this occasion I couldn’t find much.
